Chef-restaurateur Zack Bruell's Chinato is named after a flavorful Italian after-dinner wine enriched with herbs, spices and cinchona bark. It boasts clean lines, gauzy curtains, low ceilings and quiet corners. Meanwhile, the menu explores the simplicity of all---literally all---Italian cuisines. Classic dishes are updated with big, bold flavors while still maintaining their simplicity. Try the bistecca alla fiorentina, accented with lemon; sweetbread fritto misto with fried caper berries, carrot and zucchini; and gnocchi with tomato, basil, toasted garlic, butter and Parmesan. Antipasti offerings are just as appealing, with options like fried baby artichokes "Roman ghetto style" and chicken livers with fried shallots. For dessert, the tiramisu is spot-on, while the apple torta will make you want to curl up with a blanket and a glass of red. Speaking of, the wine list is also well-written, with vinos coming from all corners of Italy and starting at $21 a bottle.
