La Strada Description:
Situated where upscale eateries greet hungry diners on a pedestrian-only, brick-paved downtown corridor, La Strada---Italian for "The Street"---offers a swanky nod to its namesake film made by Federico Fellini. Owned and operated by Terry Tarantino of Little Italy's La Dolce Vita, La Strada serves up seventy-percent Mediterranean and thirty-percent Italian fare in a roomy, peculiarly lit venue. Handmade, wrought iron banisters line a winding staircase and enclose an upper 60-seat café-like space overlooking the area below. While much of the menu---and décor---is inspired by the Middle East, Tarantino's Italian roots run deep. There are a wide variety of cold antipasti, meze and pizzas. Good for a light lunch, we recommend the Greco pie made with spinach, artichoke and feta cheese on a thin, crispy crust. Dinner includes pasta, kebabs and "street plates" like Marrakech Dajaj, vitello di Pavarotti and Barcelona skirt, a version of paella with veal sausage, mussels and skirt steak laced with lime and tamarind. For those looking to round out their dinner with something sweet, try the tiramisu, or simply cleanse your palate with some drunken fruit.
