Vanille Fine Pastries Description:
In Vanille's cheery, polished space on Beacon Hill, it's fun to play the Parisian flaneur over coffee and pastries, watching students, Brahmin descendants and guidebook-toting tourists toodle down Charles Street. (Granted, the Euromance doesn't quite translate to its sibling in The Mall at Chestnut Hill.) Not all are as pretty as they look, but the croissants are fine, buttery-luscious from the cheese and béchamel varieties to the more traditional pain au chocolat and almond. We also like the Boston cream pie, dollhouse-cute and as worthy as the original from the nearby Omni Parker House. Precious, tea-worthy sandwiches like smoked salmon with cucumber round out the menu.
