Lala Rokh Description:
Lala Rokh is a soothing jewel nestled deep within Beacon Hill. Even the menu's back-story is lovely: sibling proprietors Babak Bina and Azita Bina-Seibel (who also own Downtown Crossing's chichi Italian restaurant, BiNA), rely on the heirloom recipes of their Azerbaijani mother. And the resulting dishes add to the magic: a well-versed waitstaff can walk you through such richly aromatic specialties as kashk-e-bademjan---roasted, mashed eggplant served with caramelized onions, minced beef and swirls of sour goats'-milk yogurt; exotic soups and stews flavored with everything from rose petals and cumin to dried fruits and saffron; and tender lamb and roast duck. The wine list is heavily Mediterranean, featuring some nice bottles from southern France. Talk quietly, though---tables are wedged close together.
