El Gaucho Description:
El Gaucho is a throwback to an era when guests dressed up, arrived in limos, ate expensive food and received slightly intimidating service. The tony ambience is appropriate for a power business dinner, birthday celebration, or a romantic---maybe clandestine---rendezvous (the dining room is very dark). The tiered room rises like an amphitheater from the fire-breathing open kitchen, and waiters in black coats parade up and down the steps bearing retro classics such as flaming lamb shish kebab and Châteaubriand for two. Some dishes are prepared tableside, such as the zesty Caesar salad or spicy tuna tartare. Though we are partial to the dry-aged porterhouse and the New York peppercorn steak, fish is handled here with equal finesse. Three seafood choices are offered nightly, plus a respectable Northwest bouillabaisse and an 18-ounce Australian lobster tail, which can be paired with a small filet for a pricey surf 'n' turf combo. To finish with a decadent blast from the past, choose bananas Foster for dessert.
