Vespaio buzzes like a beehive. Prepare to wait for a table, because it's usually packed; wedge into the noisy bar for a splash of vino. We like the wine list---even the house Chianti is a treat. Check out the impressive antipasto case for a bite of deviled eggs, crab claws or a homemade fruit tart. Steamed mussels with loads of fresh garlic and capers may be the best in town. For main courses, we've enjoyed the aromatic wood fired offerings like chile-rubbed, spit-roasted chicken accompanied by smoky grilled polenta or a tender tuna steak slathered with pungent caponata. You also can't go wrong with the risotto of the day, or the vibrant roasted beet salad with fennel, orange segments and shaved carrots. If you wonder where all the fresh flavors come from, just look at the garden filled with seasonal produce like eggplant, tomatoes, chard, green beans and squash. Lemon olive oil cake served with fresh berries and lemon gelato makes a splendid ending.
