Oak Steakhouse Description:
Brett McKee is a legend in Charleston's constellation of chefs. His bigger-than-life personality and well-known community generosity are evident throughout Oak Steakhouse. The three-story restaurant itself is the epitome of character and luxury entwined; the service first-rate; and the wine list as decadent as the rest of the place. McKee knows how to appeal to the epicurean in each of us. The Oak's Italian accents come out in a luscious Gorgonzola fondue served with sweet apple slices and shatteringly crisp fried pancetta. Osso buco is a standout, and side dishes served family-style are uniformly rich. The steaks are consistently satisfying and accurately prepared, and are accompanied by a choice of sauces for those who are so inclined. Crème brûlée passes the classic "separates the men from the boys" test---but it takes a passionate eater to take it on after one of McKee's meals.

Review :
we arrived 20 minutes prior to our reservation last Saturday to enjoy a drink at the bar. over an HOUR later, we were still waiting for our table. plenty of other people with reservations after ours were seated ahead of us - presumably because they were friends of the owner judging from the coziness.
after inquiring for the 4th time and getting no real estimation for when our table would be ready, we let the hostess know that we were leaving.
if you're craving a steak in Charleston, I'd suggest Outback before Oak.
