Pearlz Oyster Bar Description:
Opening onto East Bay Street, Pearlz boasts an interior of exposed brick, roomy booths, a community table, and a generously sized bar with live "shuckers" serving patrons as fast as they can. The house oysters are usually Appalachicolas, but others rotate regularly, including Malpeques and Umamis. They are consistently served icy cold and delicious with crackers and cocktail sauce or just a little lemon and horseradish. The grassy mignonette, clogged with too many herbs, is the only flaw. Sampler platters allow for oyster-tasting all over the map. For those who need a little more sustenance, the gumbo is exceptional, full of tiny shrimp, spicy sausage and barely cooked oysters. It's possible to have a quiet seafood dinner at Pearlz, but far more fun to belly up to the bar and suck down the shellfish.
