Spur Gastropub Description:
Leave your cowboy hat at home. There's nothing overtly Western about this intimate urban pub except a vaguely saddle-shaped bar. Spur's moody lighting and gauzy curtains create a sophisticated ambience both romantic and industrial and a tad intimidating. The décor consists of rotating photographs dramatically projected on an enormous screen. Classic cocktails with a twist---try the ultra smooth Kentucky Tuxedo: bourbon, sherry, lavender and orange bitters---and a cool vibe make the place a popular watering hole. The fresh, creative menu by chef-owners Brian McCracken and Dana Tough stretches culinary boundaries and appeals to adventurous palates with bold, concentrated flavors and surprising textures. Dishes may include crostini topped with salmon, mascarpone and pickled shallots; Washington chicken confit, mustard, garlic chips and scallion; and sous vide octopus, chickpea, celery and treviso. Tagliatelle pairs with duck egg, oyster mushroom and pine nut. Desserts have included chocolate sponge cake, caramel, ice cream and sea salt. We recommend avoiding the trendy "scene" by making an early weeknight reservation.
