Ohana Japanese Polynesian Grill and Sushi Lounge Description:
Discover a slice of tropical kitsch amid Belltown's eateries. No cliché is overlooked in the island décor---Hawaiian bric-a-brac is everywhere. Bamboo accents and batik-patterned fabric frame the long banquette and intimate booths lining the narrow room with the thatched tiki bar. A surfer rides a perpetual wave, undisturbed by deft bartenders dispensing Lava Flows and mai tais, all garnished with the prerequisite paper umbrellas. The menu includes teriyaki and other Japanese favorites, but the best bet is the pupus. These tantalizing small plates include fresh, raw ahi diced with pineapple, cilantro and seaweed, glistening with sesame oil and lime juice. Or try plump spring rolls in soft, crêpe-like wrappers filled with green papaya, cucumber, cabbage, basil and mint. Tender baby-back ribs are bathed in zesty Pickapeppa sauce, and clams are steamed in broth perfumed with ginger, lemon grass, green curry, coconut and basil. At lunch it's a whole other world: no thumping music, no bartender, no pupus, but some very nice bento combinations, and low prices.
