Monsoon Description:
Fresh, vibrant interpretations of classic Vietnamese dishes interpreted with Pacific Northwest style have made Monsoon one of Seattle's finest Asian restaurants. An open kitchen plus blonde wood and stone surfaces up noise levels and mean you often have to lean in to hear your companion, but create an elegant setting. Inspired by the Southeast Asian heritage of its Vietnam-born owners, the food is artfully prepared and creatively presented. Start with la lot beef (beef-wrapped bundles of jícama, carrot, mint and basil encased in a crackling wild betel leaf), or fat spring rolls, split to reveal a generous filling of Dungeness crab and rock shrimp. We recommend the halibut steamed in a banana leaf and smothered under pale lily buds, earthy oyster mushrooms, and frilly tree ears; or spice-rubbed Alaska king salmon steeped in green tea leaves. Don't miss the wickedly hot green beans or the refreshing green papaya and mango salad shot through with aromatic Thai basil and coriander. Well-crafted desserts end the meal with finesse. A short wine list is well suited to the occasionally fiery flavors of this elegant cuisine.
