Kingfish Café Description:
This charming storefront restaurant serves down-home, yet upscale Southern cooking in a classy setting. Kingfish Café is the inspiration of sisters Laurie and Leslie Coaston, who created the restaurant and use family recipes. Their personal touch extends to the warm, professional service and old-world ambience of high, deep blue ceilings, velvet drapes and subtle lighting. The menu includes slow-roasted pork chops topped with fruit chutney, griddled catfish, spicy gumbo, and the signature mac 'n' cheese. We like Miss Choo Choo's Company's Comin' rib-eye, which gets gussied up with spicy peach relish and lush corn pudding. Not in the mood for a huge meal? (Portions are enormous here---just like grandma's.) Order a bowl of the crayfish and corn chowder with a side of yam fries. Save room for the moist red velvet cake or bread pudding made with chunks of apples and laced with bourbon sauce. Go early or go during the week to duck the long wait since reservations aren't accepted.
