Tacolicious Description:
High ceilings, clean lines, and simple, sparse decorative elements give Tacolicious a sense of spaciousness that belies its true size (which is quite small). A handful of tables occupy a corner in the back of the restaurant and another handful face the large windows at the restaurant's Chestnut Street front. The main dining area is actually along the long counter that hems in the eatery's kitchen and bar. Local artist Paul Madonna's pop-art watercolors hang neatly on the walls. The overall effect is an eatery that feels upscale without being upscale. (Just in case there is any doubt, a plaque announcing "Fingers Not Forks" hangs on a wall.) Forks, though offered, aren't really necessary for digging into petite tacos stuffed with braised short ribs akin to brisket. Carnitas are moist and lightly glazed with subtle caramelization. On special occasions, filet mignon is tucked into a soft taco and topped with a scattering of fried onions, nicely cooked and the true gem of the evening. The fork does come in handy, however, for some of the starters such as a smoked tuna tostada sprinkled with crispy leeks, or savory plantains accompanied by a cumin sauce. Desserts are simple, such as flan and mini dishes of ice cream.
