Last private home in La Villita. Famous for continental and eclectic cuisine including lobster and Beef Wellington.
Fig Tree's location, on a bend in the San Antonio River, is one of the waterway's finest. Tables are set with crystal and fine china, and the wine list is always of more-than-average interest with its selection of vintage Bordeaux and boutique bottles from the Pacific Northwest. A French-born chef adds credence to a menu that has evolved into a document worthy of the wine. Quail stuffed with foie gras and black truffles and anointed with apple cider emulsion sets the tone for entrées, which also include pan-roasted North Atlantic salmon on wilted spinach and lentils and mustard-mint-crusted rack of lamb with Moroccan couscous. Beef Wellington may also wow traditionalists, but we hereby put in a plea for more seasonal variations. Until that happens, however, we'll happily tuck into a chocolate bombe consisting of hazelnut cake bedecked with ganache-coated chocolate mousse. Neither that nor the tableside-torched baked Alaska ever needs to change.
