Zuni Grill Description:
Located in the shade of cypresses at the terminus of one of the River Walk's camel-back bridges, Zuni buzzes from breakfast to bedtime. The buzz is especially apparent in the a.m., as Zuni is one of the few places on the fabled walkway to get breakfast, and the choices include scrambled eggs San Antonio-style (with green sauce), breakfast tacos served with fruit (not a common accompaniment hereabouts) and house-smoked salmon with all the trimmings. The chef's talents may be more evident at lunch and dinner, though, with appetizers such as giant, spicy calamari rings and cilantro crab meat croquettes, and main plates like a potato-crusted salmon and Southwestern sea bass papillote. In the afternoon, the famous frozen cactus margaritas, swirled with a purée of magenta prickly pear fruit, add appreciably to the buzz, with a few hardy locals braving the otherwise tourist-dominated crowd for some shade-dappled riverside tippling.
