Broadway 5050 Description:
The 50-50 is, if such a thing can be said to exist, a high-class honky-tonk---and an anomaly in its high-toned Alamo Heights 'hood. We aren't fooled by the bogus bad-boy attitude, however; especially at lunch the service is almost endearingly offhand. Lunch is less acoustically, er, active than evening, too, so if conversation is contemplated, this is the time to sample burgers such as the Royale with cheese, the Guapo with refried beans, chips and salsa or the Big Kahuna with mushrooms and Swiss---all properly grilled and served on sesame-seeded buns, accompanied, we suggest, by the house-made potato chips. Chicken fried steak and an assortment of sandwiches round out the possibilities. (There's also a kids' menu, but we recommend taking baby burgerhounds only at lunch or very early evening.) One of the two dozen or so beers on draft---or one of the three dozen in icy cold bottles---is sure to please as a burger buddy.
