Duff's Description:
A proud survivor of the era of Free Love, Duff's still sports mismatched chairs and staffers who don jeans. But it has grown into a universally acceptable restaurant that is hip enough for your freestyle pals and straight enough to seem just pleasantly exotic to your elderly aunt from the country. Similarly, the food ranges from safe (pepper steaks) to sexy (spicy samosas or smoked salmon quesadillas). Thai noodles stand next to black bean burritos and jerk chicken. There's always at least one vegetarian entrée and a few constants, even though the menu changes quarterly. Despite the wide range of influences, the kitchen nearly always gets it right. The service is surprisingly good for a place of its ilk, and the wine list offers up many interesting choices. One of a limited number of places to do Saturday brunch, it fills with locals and suburbanites touring the antique shops and bistros of the Central West End. Owners Tim Kirby and Karen Duffy would wince to hear themselves described in an almost fuddy-duddy way, but their restaurant is consistently reliable.
