There's something to be said about being consistent, especially in the case of San Lorenzo, where the service and the quality of the food are consistently stellar. The charming room is decorated in gold and burgundy hues; serene murals and pretty painted Italian plates adorn its walls. Subdued lighting and background music of romantic ballads enhance the casual but elegant atmosphere. Traditional fare includes choices of all-you-can-eat pasta with your selection of sauces, and eggplant Parmesan with soup or salad. But there are plenty of gems hiding on the menu, such as an appetizer of artichoke hearts sautéed with white wine and lemon, and shrimp scampi with angel hair, plus imaginative pizzas such as Florentine with béchamel and mozzarella. We like the massive bowl of bow-tie pasta sautéed in olive oil and garlic, tossed with oven-roasted chicken, sun-dried tomatoes and tiny green peas. Gnocchi sautéed in marinara sauce and covered with melted mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses are lusty and delicious. Chicken Marsala and angelo are favorites, as are veal piccata and Parmesan. Tiramisu and crème brûlée are among the sweet finales.
