Mimi's is smack dab in the center of the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood, and generally packed downstairs in the bar area, and after sunset, upstairs in the restaurant. Cold tapas run from the likes of stuffed piquillo peppers, ceviche with yucca chips and tortilla española, while patatas bravas, empanadas with romesco sauce and sautéed squid come off the hot line. The manchego toast with a rich, velvety sauce over mushrooms on a baguette should not be missed. Mussels with a garlic-infused wine sauce anyone? Yes, please. Specials change frequently and add to the complexity and allure of these small-plate compositions. The brief but appropriate spoken-word wine list draws on selections from Spain, Argentina, Chile and Portugal. There is limited table service until the band starts to play, then you order any food at the bar and it will be delivered to your table. You may surprise yourself and stay all night downstairs, and we do mean all night.
