Feelings Description:
Housed in an early-1800s brick-and-masonry cottage with a picturesque little courtyard, Feelings offers a setting as quaintly Old New Orleans as you'll find at any restaurant in town. The ambience can be so beguiling, in fact, that patrons seem able to forgive or outright overlook any number of flaws coming forth from the kitchen, which starts in a Creole mode and then takes off in several disparate directions. The house pâté is humdrum in flavor and texture. Somehow, shrimp and buttermilk find each other in the same soup bowl, to no perceptible benefit. Spinach and Dijon mustard make frequent appearances in sauces on main-course meats and seafood. And a sweetish poppyseed dressing is splashed onto greens with Mandarin orange slices. Partake in enough of the "bottomless" sparkling wine on offer at brunch, however, and none of this might matter.
