Lola's Description:
Garlic flavors most everything but the desserts at this casual, reasonably priced Spanish café. The garlic soup is a fine way to start. The paella strikes us as too ordinary to deserve the adulation it gets from Lola's patrons. More promising, the grilled trout comes with an admirably simple parsley embellishment. The sauce on the first-rate pork loin acquires its deep-red hue from paprika and wine. Fewer than a dozen tables fill the room, which can have its annoyances when babes in arms are present. The kitchen, completely open to the dining room, adds its voice to the babble. Outside, patrons frequently wait an hour or more, an endurance test that sometimes has to be suffered standing. Is the food at this miniscule storefront spot worth the hassle? The answer depends largely on your garlic tolerance and love of home-style Spanish cooking. If you answer in the affirmative, arrive before it opens or bring something to read.
