Kyoto's crisply simple décor complements the straightforward approach of the chefs behind its sushi bar. This team deftly turns out rolls and sashimi platters of unimpeachable freshness. Every preparation is available with white or brown rice. A full menu of fried, grilled and seared seafood and meats includes such dishes as seared rare tuna, topped with fresh avocado and awash in a gingery vinaigrette. Just as good are the salmon steak, sizzling in its pungent teriyaki sauce on a metal platter, and the fat green mussels, baked in an egg sauce. Don't pass up the mushroom salad. Sit at the low wooden bar in front or choose a table in one of the airy and inviting dining rooms. The occasional sogginess of the nori wrapping the rolls is easily excused when what's inside is so pristine. Kyoto's closes for vacation the latter part of July and the first two weeks of August.
