This mid-priced lunch and dinner option is located near City Park and the New Orleans Museum of Art. Finding the restaurant is a bit of a trick, since it's housed within the enormous apartment building Esplanade at City Park. Enter through the building's main lobby on Moss Street facing Bayou St. John, or ring the buzzer on the unmarked side entrance on Esplanade Avenue, and you'll soon find this petite restaurant doing business from what looks like a corner apartment renovated as a dining room, kitchen and separate bar. The menu is a mix of comfort food, such as gumbo and roast beef or barbecue shrimp po' boys, and such dishes as roasted lamb or pork and shrimp sautéed with tomatoes and garlic over fettuccine. Entrées are priced below $15, and many are below $10.

I had the pleasure of dining at Daniel's on the Bayou this weekend. I had the vegetable ginger root soup and sauteed shrimp on spicy jasmine rice. It was absolutely delicious. The service was excellent. The food was fresh and served right after it was prepared. Usually I order the Avocado Salad because the avocados are always fresh-this dish is incredible. Daniel's food is healthy and I eat there at least three times a week. I recommend this restaurant highly.

Daniel's is a friendly place, but his food isn't consistence. I have eaten there a few times but found it not worth the time or money. I brought my son and his new wife there and was embrassed by the food as my son is quite the cook. Don't waste your time.
