Companion Bakehouse Description:
Companion made a name for itself as a supplier of first-rate bread, first to restaurants and then to retailers in St. Louis. This is one of three bakery-café outlets frequented by everyone from business-types to moms planning after-prom parties. Sometimes overburdened by its own popularity, it renovated the ordering process to ease traffic flow and improve the dining experience during peak hours. However, the agonizing array of choices remains the same. Besides the requisite breakfast breads and pastries (if you decide to fill up on pain au chocolat, you're in good company), egg casseroles with various flourishes and hot cereal are possible in the morning hours. Come lunchtime, an extensive menu of sandwiches complements the house's various breads. And there are cookies, cakes, tarts and other goodies that beckon seductively.
