James Beach Restaurant Description:
This noisy neighborhood favorite (formerly the oh-so-hip West Beach Café) is fun and festive, with a terrific patio out back. The cuisine, meanwhile, should be taken seriously, as chef Shari Lynne Robins turns out such dishes as calf's liver with pancetta, beer-batter onion rings and halibut with wasabi mashed potatoes. Daily specials come with soup or salad and include such homey favorites as meat loaf, chicken pot pie and crispy fried chicken with mashed potatoes, creamed spinach and corn bread. Wines are taken very seriously here, and one section of the list (Dan's Auction Picks) includes outstanding vintages in very limited supply.
