The Lifesaving Station Description:
At the furthest reaches of Duck lies a restored 1899 U.S. lifesaving station, and within its simple yet elegant interior awaits an impressive dining experience. Large parties dine upstairs, preserving the main room for smaller groups, thus guaranteeing an intimate evening. The kitchen utilizes seasonal ingredients from a variety of local purveyors. Dinner may begin with a large bowl of steamed littleneck clams in a lemon-herb butter. Other starters may include a few salads using fresh tomatoes and herbs, steamed shrimp, mussels, and the Sanderling signature shrimp-and-crab chowder. We recommend the mahi mahi entrée, served over fried green tomatoes, a summer bean salad and cauliflower cream. Other main courses include free-range fried chicken (mostly boneless) with baked hoop cheddar mac 'n' cheese and braised greens, Nooherooka beef short rib hash, Maple Leaf Farms braised duck potpie, grilled North Carolina shrimp with red beans and rice and, for vegetable lovers, a summer pea and roast cauliflower risotto. Don't skip dessert: on any given night you may find whoopie pies, berries and cream or caramel cheesecake.
