Husband-wife team Brenda and Scott Kim are longtime fixtures of the Northeast Ohio culinary scene, having introduced many to Japanese cuisine. At Sasa, the education process---and fine food---continues. Inside, diners will find a modern, minimal aesthetic, with striking white décor amid tasteful Asian-inspired touches. When it comes to what's on the plate, the menu is both unique in the area and anything but minimal. Mimicking the popular Japanese drinking establishments (izakaya), the menu is expansive, and its convivial servers are more than happy to help you navigate. Choose from numerous soups and salads to start. Or, go for "The Rock," soy-garlic marinated slivers of beef served on an ishiyaki stone. We also dig the Sasa fries, topped with aonori and a spicy Japanese shichimi pepper blend. Small dishes include Kobe beef gyoza and shrimp shu mai, while medium-size plates include the veg-laden five mushroom tofu. Sushi preparations see a host of creative and traditional rolls as well as sashimi to choose from. Don't skip dessert, as the daily house-made ice creams are a refreshingly sweet and light end to any meal.
