Atasca Description:
An more modern, sleek offshoot of an established East Cambridge Portuguese restaurant, featuring moderately-priced fare.
The wine list focuses on Portugese selections, mostly in inexpensive and moderate price ranges.
The original Atasca was a tiny joint that burst with rustic charm. Though no less ceramic-lined and dimly-lit, its larger successor, in an office building on the edge of Kendall Square, doesn't feel like the same kind of find. But never mind---the Portuguese repertoire hasn't changed a bit. Seafood is the star here, from sautéed squid, garlicky and crouton-topped, to wonderful filet of bacalhau, baked and accompanied by caramelized onions and fried potatoes, to the signature, relatively subtle cataplana---but don't overlook vegetable dishes like favas stewed in vinho verde. Speaking of vinho verde, the all-Portuguese wine list offers an oenological education as well as many a bargain.
