Buona Tavola's menu features a wide variety of antipasti, pastas and main courses. The mid sized restaurant in downtown Paso Robles serves Northern Italian cuisine. Prices are moderate to expensive.
Paso Robles residents craving chef-owner Antonio Varia's skillful interpretations of traditional Italian fare no longer need to trek down to San Luis Obispo for their fix. After successfully earning a faithful following in San Luis Obispo, Varia has generously decided to share the wealth. Tucked away in Paso but with a big city feel, the restaurant's open kitchen is welcoming and not too noisy. The lunch menu features traditional favorites like gnocchi al burro e salvia, potato dumplings served in a sage and butter sauce, and timballo valdostano, eggplant baked Italian-style with peppers, zucchini, sweet onions and fontina cheese. The insalata di gamberi e capesante, a savory salad selection served warm, featuring grilled shrimp and fresh scallops, is a menu mainstay here. The mushroom soup is worth trying. For dinner, entrées range from an herb-marinated rib-eye steak to veal scallopine, served with prosciutto, fontina cheese in a rosemary-veal reduction; fresh grilled fish and seafood selections; and of course, a wide selection of pasta dishes, including a worth-the-trip linguine fan diablo with lobster.
