Paso Robles Inn Steakhouse Description:
The Paso Robles Inn Steakhouse is part of the historic downtown Paso Robles Inn. As the name indicates, steak is a specialty of the house, along with prime rib and other meats. The decor is traditional look with exposed wood beams. A large selection of Paso Robles and other central coast wines is available.
This historic inn on the square in downtown Paso Robles dates back to 1942, so it attracts its fair share of both locals and visitors. Chef Kelly Wangard keeps a good balance of old favorites and new enticements on the restaurant's menu, including classic steakhouse starters such as a cheesy French onion soup, and also less familiar dishes such as fried Brie and crispy calamari with a zesty Thai-chili sauce. The Inn's "Steak and Potatoes" entrées are what you'd expect---Harris Ranch USDA Choice steaks and prime rib, plus surf 'n' turf options of lobster, prawns and Alaskan crab legs. We recommend the pan-roasted Morro Bay halibut (or California mahi mahi, depending on seasonality); the sweetness of the red pepper sauce plays nicely off the crust and the firmness of the fish. Also be sure to check out the nightly specials, particularly on the weekends after Wangard has stocked up on fresh produce at one of several local farmers markets (think goat cheese-stuffed squash blossoms and heirloom tomatoes with burrata). The Inn's dining room provides a casual, quiet retreat for lunch or dinner, while the atmosphere in the Cattlemen's Lounge upstairs varies with the crowd. For breakfast, check out the hearty offerings at the Inn's 1940's diner-style coffee shop.
