Three Drunken Goats Description:
This tapas restaurant occupies a roomy storefront on Montrose's Honolulu Avenue, an old-fashioned main drag awakened with interesting restaurants. With its chocolate-hued walls lined with vintage photos of Spain, contemporary wrought iron chandeliers and long wooden banquettes, the candlelit space is casual and appealing. A wine bar anchors the front of the room, while an open kitchen lies in the rear. With a menu designed by a former Cobras & Matadors chef, it offers a reasonably familiar, if not strictly authentic, roster of Spanish tapas. One of the best is the tender grilled octopus, served atop slices of sautéed potatoes and chorizo. Piquillo peppers are stuffed with smoky Idiazábal cheese, while bacon-wrapped dates filled with chorizo are sensual little packages. A tortilla española is right on point, served with garlicky aïoli, but artichoke heart-goat cheese croquetas lack the creamy filling one expects. Larger plates include paella and steaks, while churros with an intensely dark chocolate dipping sauce make for a satisfying finale. The wine list is an all-Spanish affair with some reasonable values, and 15 wines are offered by the glass.
