Azeen's Afghani Restaurant Description:
Afghan cuisine is a great undiscovered joy, not readily available in L.A. Those who enjoy Persian, Indian or Pakistani cooking will undoubtedly find something of interest on an Afghan menu. Here, in a lovely dining room possessing both Mediterranean and Asian elements, tables are topped with crisp white linen and candles, while tapestries, musical instruments and assorted Afghan artifacts accent the scene. Starters include bulanee (big, deep-fried turnovers filled with leeks, scallions and herbs), sambosas (vaguely reminiscent of Indian samosas) and mantu (delicate steamed dumplings filled with chopped beef and onions, topped with yogurt and vegetables). Entrées include kebabs and a variety of lamb dishes served with seasoned rice, as well as vegetarian options. Finish off a fine Afghan meal with firnee (pudding topped with almonds and pistachios) and cardamom-infused tea.
