Quadrupel Brasserie Description:
Old Pasadena's once-sleepy Union Street, a block north of bustling Colorado Boulevard, has suddenly awakened with a flurry of eateries, and this gastropub is among the best. Chef Adam Levoe, formerly of Madeleines, has created an intriguing menu that weaves modern concepts into French brasserie favorites, with small plates that complement an extensive array of Belgian beers and a global wine list. The clubby storefront dining room is sheathed in mahogany, complete with hand-carved coffered ceiling, leaded glass and vintage-esque chandeliers, while a lively bar is tucked in the rear. Small plates include a tin of deep-fried shallot rings with a trio of dipping sauces, pork-and-pancetta meatballs in bacon-tomato sauce, and roasted bone marrow with a radicchio salad. A sausage plate, served on a large cutting board, arrives with pickled veggies, sauerkraut and a pair of mustards---ideal for pairing with a hand-crafted beer. Among entrées is a first-rate steak frites with a deftly prepared molasses-bordelaise reduction. And for dessert, there's croissant bread pudding or a chocolate sampler plate.
