The Butcher Shop Description:
A wine bar and cafe in a working butcher shop, owned by chef Barbara Lynch. The menu offers small plates, including charcuterie and salads.
The actual butcher shop has different hours from the cafe and bar; details can be found on their website.
The Butcher Shop is exactly what it purports to be by day; by night, it's an unpretentious yet somehow haute charcuterie and wine bar installed in the heart of the South End. Its appeal lies in its handsome simplicity. A half-dozen stools line the bar; a blackboard lists daily wine specials; a bar-length wooden butcher's block sits in the back for tastings, where fresh-made salamis, forcemeats, cured hams and pâtés hang in glass cases. The menu is tiny but strong in every sense, from the chunky, country-style pâtés to the "hot dogs," a modest misnomer for these fresh pork sausages. Meanwhile, a wine list of regional French finds wanders dreamily on. Stop by for whimsical salami and wine pairings every Sunday night.
