The Beehive Description:
Owned by Jack Bardy of Pho Republique and Darryl Settles, formerly of Bob's Southern Bistro, The Beehive is located in the Boston Center for the Arts and offers an eclectic menu, with American, Mediterranean, and Eastern European influences. Later in the evening, live music - predominantly jazz - is offered.
Name notwithstanding, this is no place for drones---it's Boston's night-crawlers who have been swarming around this hot-spot since the second it opened. A seasoned pair of restaurateurs (Jack Bardy of Pho Republique and Darryl Settles of now-defunct neighborhood legend Bob's Southern Bistro) has gone to great lengths to ensure the honey the crowds are drawn to takes myriad forms---and that it won't run out anytime soon. First, there's the extensive and eclectic entertainment lineup, ranging from blues to cabaret---a rarity for an area eatery. And second, there's the space, a striking split-level with chandeliers and hunting trophies, funky drapery and giant artworks that single-handedly and exponentially up Boston's cool quotient. Chef Rebecca Newell offers plates such as candied garlic spareribs and Guinness-battered oysters with Bass aïoli while mains may range from Moroccan couscous with chicken and lamb (or vegetarian) to smoked and spiced grilled salmon and The Beehive Prime burger.
