Tomislavgrad, city, municipal center and municipality, also known as Duvno, is located in the southern part of the Herzeg-Bosnian Canton (Canton 10), right next to the border with the Republic of Croatia and Dalmatian hinterland (four border crossings). That is the geographical and historical connection between Bosnia, Dalmatia and Herzegovina, and at the same time the joint of the roads Mostar-Bihac-Zagreb, Makarska-Bugojno-Banja Luka and Split-Sarajevo. In a little over a half an hour and across the border crossing highway, which is the direct connection with Europe.
The surface of Municipality Tomislavgrad is 965,771,139 m2, i.e. 966 km2! It contains 47 cadastre municipalities and 59 populated towns. Historical facts indicate that in year 925, in Duvanjsko polje, the first Croatian king was crowned - king Tomislav! Tomislavgrad kept changing its name throughout various time periods. In the Roman period, it used to be called Delminium, and the root of the name is in the Illyric word "D'lmno" - pasture, or "dalma" ("delma") - sheep. In the time of Croatian and Bosnian rulers it used to be called "Zupanjac" (according to the place of residence of the governor of the Duvno parish); in the time of the Turkish reign it used to be called "Zupanj" - river stream; in the time of the Austro-Hungarian reign - "Zupanjac"; in 1928 it was named Tomislavgrad (in honor of king Tomislav) and it lasted until 1945; from 1945 until 1990 it was named Duvno, after which its citizens declared by referendum on renaming it Tomislavgrad (even though citizens of this municipality are still called "Duvno people").
