Così styles itself after an intimate French café not only in its ambience but also in its handcrafted sandwich offerings, which come on Parisian-style flatbread. A staple in New York City for years, the Cosi chain actually began life as Xando right here in the Hartford area. An open-flame stone oven determines the menu---thin-crust pizzas, made-to-order panini and open-face melts, not to mention eggs on square bagels for the breakfast crowd. We return again and again for the TBM---tomato, basil and fresh mozzarella---and the zesty wasabi roast beef. The coffee drinks and desserts, meanwhile, are surprisingly fresh, and the WiFi-equipped seating area, containing comfortable couches and plush chairs, creates a casual coffeehouse vibe that lets us lounge all day.
