Fulton Five Description:
Fulton Five is one of Charleston's older favorites, for plenty of good reasons. A gracious dining room accessed through a subtle but embracing off-street entrance is the setting for delicious food and wonderful service. The shrimp panzanella is an unusual combination of tangy balsamic vinegar, juicy halves of grape tomato and cucumber brunoise, along with slightly crunchy croutons that are delightfully squishy around the edges where they've soaked up the vinegar. The coup de grace is tender, petite shrimp dabbed with fig preserves that call perfect attention to their sweetness. The risotto and pastas also are delicious, particularly the risotto with tiny hunks of spicy Italian sausage, strips of tender leek, and little blobs of goat cheese in every other bite. Lightly caper-encrusted game hen is butterflied and splayed, drumsticks up, across a mound of rich, smooth mashed potatoes and perfectly sautéed and seasoned spinach. Desserts are a joy as well, with a perfectly competent tiramisù and surprisingly light chocolate mousse cake.
