About Shailkupa
Shailkupa Upazila(Jhenaidah district) with an area of 373.42 sq km, is bounded by khoksa and kumarkhali upazilas on the north, Jhenaidah sadar, magura sadar and harinakunda upazilas on the south, pangsha and sreepur (Magura) upazilas on the east, kushtia sadar and Harinakunda upazilas on the west. Main rivers are Gorai, Kumar, Dakua.
Shailkupa (Town) consists of 9 wards and 24 mahallas. The area of the town is 20.93 sq km. The town has a population of 31788; male 51.98% and female 48.02%; population density per sq km 1519. Literacy rate among the town people is 32.4%.
Administration Shailkupa thana was turned into an upazila in 1983. The upazila consists of 1 municipality, 9 wards, 14 union parishads, 181 mouzas and 258 villages.Archaeological heritage and relics Shailkupa Shahi Mosque (1519-1531), Harihar Garh (Hakimpur) and Ram Gopal Mandir (Sena period).
Historical events During the War of Liberation 21 freedom fighters were killed in a direct encounter with the Pak army at a place adjacent to the Kamanna High School.
