Macrina Bakery Description:
Chef Leslie Mackie has a well-earned reputation for her breads, pastries and cakes. Many of Seattle's top restaurants serve her breads, but you can purchase it directly here at her original storefront bakery. We also like dining in the hip café where panini, accompanied by pickled onions, olives and a choice of green salad or one of several rotating side salads, are served; try the demi baguette with ham, Fontina and Dijon mustard. Soups are robust, served, of course, with house-made bread. Mix-and-match meals for the tapas-minded are also possible, such as grilled crostini (topping options always include savory and sweet) or a mezze plate of multiple salads. Pizzettas from Macrina's ovens are thin-crusted and enticing. The weekend brunch menu features concoctions such as scrambled eggs with salmon, crème fraîche and chives atop a lightly-toasted brioche, and airy waffles. Don't forget dessert: cookies, bars and cakes are available, as well as to-go salads, dressings and dips to accompany fresh-baked breads.
