One of Seattle's most romantic restaurants, Chez Shea serves contemporary French cuisine prepared with American sensibilities. Tucked into Pike Place Market, the restaurant has wide arched windows offering expansive views of Elliott Bay and sunsets behind the Olympic Mountains. Each evening, candles and fabric-draped chandeliers transform the intimate dining room into an enchanting, magical space. The seasonally inspired menu is available à la carte or as a seven-course tasting menu for $70 per person. Add $30 to include five wine pairings. (Note that tasting menus require the entire table to participate.) The restaurant's proximity to Pike Place Market ensures dishes are prepared with the freshest, seasonal ingredients. Memorable beginnings may include a mushroom medley (shimeji, oyster and abalone) with fennel bisque or seared Hudson Valley foie gras with rhubarb compote. Entrées range from simply prepared wild Alaskan halibut to a confit of five-spice Muscovy duck leg in a star anise broth. For a seductive finale, order the chocolate-hazelnut pot de crème or the black bottom banana cream pie. In a nod to French tradition, there's always a lovely selection of cheeses.
