Laredos Description:
A cross between a sports bar and a festive Mexican cantina, this spot is an upscale version of a classic border town café. Thanks to chef and co-owner Jose Betancourt, who hails from Northern Mexico, the food is a cut above typical Mexican restaurants blending Southern Texan and Northern Mexican cuisines in dishes with more sophisticated flavor than typical Tex-Mex fare. Noteworthy dishes include the well-seasoned carne asada and the tacos al pastor, featuring marinated pork cooked on a rotisserie and served in handmade corn tortillas with charred pineapple, onion and cilantro. A salad of field greens is tossed in spunky chile vinaigrette and topped with avocado and toasted pumpkin seeds. Light, crispy chips are served with red and green tomatillo-avocado salsas. For dessert, indulge in the flan or sweet rice milk cheesecake.
