Unity, Sask, Town, pop 2243 (2001c), 2200 (1996c), 2227 (1991c), area 9.77 km2, inc 1919, is located in west central Saskatchewan 70 km southwest of North Battleford. Settlement in the area commenced in 1904 and the townsite began developing when the railway arrived in 1908. It serves a large grain-growing area, and natural gas, salt, potash and oil have also been discovered in the district. The first attempt at POTASH mining in Canada was made at Unity. The extraction of salt and natural gas have proven more successful and contribute to the community's growth and stability.
