Bel Frites Description:
If you're looking for a pure fry fix, Bel Frites is the place. There's no batter, no shortcuts, no frozen anything. In fact, it takes 12 hours to make these Belgian frites. Crispy outside and baked-potato tender inside, these slender frites are totally satisfying with just a sprinkle of sea salt, but don't miss out on the original seasonings and sauces at this downtown snack shop. Spice seasonings include Jamaican jerk, Cajun chili essence, or firehouse "tailburner," while the dipping sauces run to curry mango chutney and, our favorite so far, smoky chipotle aïoli. There are also bottled Belgian beers and ales available, ranging from the ubiquitous Stella Artois to the delightful Duvel. Belgian Liège waffles are served on the weekends and at the Thursday night farmers market in downtown San Luis Obispo.
