This unpretentious little restaurant with hand-painted walls attracts the breakfast club for Kate's famous ginger-peach pancakes. The honey-dipped hush puppies are surprisingly good, and soul food such as greens, beans and rice are made with a practiced hand. Don't mind the downscale digs: no reservations, no credit cards, a long wait and a walk through the kitchen to the bathroom are part of the bargain.
