Marlowe Description:
Marlowe's rich, dark and moody interior is meant to bring together the elements of an old-world butcher shop and a classic bistro. A roll of butcher paper hangs from the wall announcing the daily specials, while a long community table is meant for dining, not carving. Meanwhile, close tables and low lighting do evoke a countryside bistro, but one that feels like a secret getaway. Not a secret is chef Jennifer Puccio's menu that seemingly hones in on every craving one has ever experienced. "Snacks" include alarmingly addictive pistachios coated in a glaze of bourbon, maple and smoked sea salt and wispy Brussels sprout chips that are light, flaky and can be eaten by the handful. Moving onto the appetizers, whole grilled prawns dredged in Bay seasoning could easily be eaten as is, but a jar of "boozy" cocktail sauce for dipping gives the dish even more robustness. Roasted chicken is juicy and tastes as if it were brushed with lavender. A creamy bowl of polenta, studded with trumpets and chanterelles, is given a potent injection of truffle. Homey yet elegant desserts appeal in the form of an apple crisp drenched in bourbon ice cream and a brown butter caramel sauce. Wines trot the globe offering vintages from Napa to South Africa.
