The Prado at Balboa Park Description:
Why break the mood? After a day (or evening) spent taking in the latest art exhibit and strolling the gorgeous grounds of Balboa Park, comparable food is in order. The Prado, tucked into the rebuilt House of Hospitality, hits the spot with its cozy ambience and eclectic food. We like to start with the trio of skewers (beef, chicken and shrimp) served with assorted sauces and Asian slaw. Also good is the mixed vegetable sushi roll, made with grilled eggplant, herbed chèvre, roasted red peppers, asparagus and house-made sorbet. The three-beet stack is a shoo-in salad choice. Main courses run the gamut from sashimi-grade ahi to rack of lamb. We prefer the grilled grande shrimp with coconut-plantain mole, the flat-iron steak and the cilantro-grilled mahi mahi---all accompanied by the divine sweet potato-plantain mash. Chocolate lovers will swoon over the decadent pot de crème, but we went nuts over the chocolate-pecan cajeta tart.
