Kemo Sabe Description:
Named for the Lone Ranger's trusty friend, Kemo Sabe is likewise a dependable Hillcrest meeting place for after-work drinks and pre-movie meals. Pigeonholing chef Deborah Scott's eclectic cuisine is difficult---dishes range from black bean soup with duck confit to coconut calamari with Vietnamese dipping sauce. Further global influence appears in the entrées like Indonesian soy rack of lamb or Thai fish chowder with chilies and lemon grass. Some plates are successful (the nut-crusted fried Brie with jalapeño jelly comes to mind), others are not (the Arizona roll with roasted duck and peach chutney in chipotle tortilla), but all are well presented. Scott's signature, Deborah's Healthy Skirts on Fire, is a four-ounce skirt steak tossed with baby arugula, spinach, blue cheese, cucumber salsa, edamame, pepitas, diced tomatoes and avocado in a balsamic vinaigrette. More heart-healthy dishes grace the menu as well.
