Tre Trattoria Description:
Some restaurant locations seem to get recycled over and over again, only to fall vacant with depressing regularity. But Tre Trattoria, chef Jason Dady's third San Antonio restaurant, may have broken the cycle at The Boardwalk on Broadway. Dady has always had Italian inclinations at both The Lodge Restaurant of Castle Hills and Bin 555, his other operations, but here, in this airy environment, it's molto Italiano with appetizers such as white beans with gremolata and Tuscan farro salad. Salads include a grilled radicchio with lemon vinaigrette, and primi are distinguished by parsnip ravioli with brown butter and a linguine and clams plate that reinvigorates the often-tired seafood staple. Family-style entrées are meant to be shared, so go with a crowd---or go very hungry. Everyday options include slow-braised short ribs and a Tuscan marinated rib-eye that defines less-is-more. Fridays might find you falling for Wagyu meatballs. If after all of this (and tumblers of earthy Italian wine), dessert beckons, consider the pine nut and chestnut honey tart; only by a bite does it best the grilled peach with mascarpone.
