El Mirador Description:
El Mirador, celebrated for its Saturday soups and neighborhood-centric breakfasts, continues to rein as the city's Mexican monarch with founder Doña Mari still putting in appearances. The menu retains some traces of a foray into Southwestern cuisine (there is a lobster taco, for example), but you'll find the roster almost equally split between classics and updated versions of old faves. The Tex-Mex side of the menu offers classic enchiladas verdes, while signature specials include a tortilla-crusted poblano chile stuffed with chipotle shrimp and cheese. At breakfast, we tend to go for huevos rancheros with salsa ranchera or chilaquiles (corn chips scrambled with eggs, pico de gallo and said salsa) in the company of architects, attorneys, preservationists and the like.
